Odisha Launches Machine-Learning Based Train Delay Alerts

In partnership with South Eastern Railways, Odisha’s Transport Department has introduced a machine-learning model to predict train delays on the Howrah–Chennai route. The system processes real-time sensor data, weather forecasts, and historical delay patterns to generate estimated arrival alerts for passengers. A mobile app and station display boards provide these predictions. Initial phase accuracy stood at 90 percent. Travelers report improved planning and reduced wait anxiety. Railway managers are using data to reschedule maintenance windows. Officials plan to integrate delay mitigation strategies and expand to freight routes. This digital service aligns with India’s smart transport modernization drive.
